Andrew McLaren
Kilmarnock
Born: 6/05/73
Hometown: Glasgow
McLaren began his career at Dundee United where he was famously part of the Scotland youth set-up which reached the final of the under-16 World Cup in 1989, beating Portugal's Luis Figo et al on the way to a crushing final defeat to Saudi Arabia.Failed to live up to that potential at United and was taken to Reading by former Celtic boss Tommy Burns. It was then that McLaren began having off-field problems which resulted in a trip to FA headquarters.Kilmarnock boss Bobby Williamson has offered McLaren the chance to kick-start his career at Rugby Park after a turbulent 1999 and time is running out for the midfielder once tipped to be a Scotland star to make his mark on the game.
