Ian Nolan
Bradford
Born: 7/09/70
Hometown: Liverpool
The Northern Ireland international full back rejected new terms to stay at Hillsborough and arrived at Valley Parade in July 2000 on a free transfer under the Bosman rule.Apart from a lengthy spell when he was out injured and missed a whole season in 1998/99 Nolan has otherwise been a virtual regular in the Owls side. The injury sustained was a badly broken leg suffered in a collision with Spurs full back Justin Edinburgh in February 1998 and though the clash seemed innocuous at the time both the tibia and fibia were damaged.Fortunately, this nasty injury cleared up and during the 1999/2000 season he made 37 appearances in all competitions and was back to his best form.A player who has had to show immense character during his professional career because apart from overcoming an horrendous injury he had to put behind him being released as a youngster by Preston to then make an impression in non league football with Liverpool based Marine. He did exactly that and three years after being released by North End he moved to Tranmere Rovers for a bargain £10,000 and they profited handsomely another three years on selling the Liverpool born defender to Sheffield Wednesday for £1.5million in 1998.
