| Vladimir Smicer |
Liverpool Born: 5/24/73 Hometown: Vernerice, Czech Rep |
| The attacking midfielder is a great friend and international team-mate of Patrik Berger and the two linked up again after Liverpool agreed a fee of around £4.2million with RC Lens in July 1999. Vladimir Smicer helped his country reach the final of Euro 96 where the Czech Republic lost to Germany, and his arrival at RC Lens coincided with the side winning the French Championship in season 1997-98.The talented Czech possesses excellent ability on the ball as well as chipping in with goals on a regular basis. He immediately set his sights on a top three place in the Premiership as well as getting Liverpool back on the silverware trail.Smicer was seen as a replacement for Steve McManaman, but is considered a better team player. He can fill in on the wide right of a four-man midfield, in the centre or just behind a front two, and provides flexibility and versatility to the Merseysiders' striking options. |
