| Having joined his former manager Arsene Wenger at Arsenal in the prelude to the start of the 1999/2000 season, young Frenchman Thierry Henry has filled the void left by the departure of fellow countryman Nicolas Anelka in brilliant fashion.Having worked with Wenger as a teenager at Monaco, Henry developed into one of French football's hottest prospects, earning himself a lucrative move to Italian giants Juventus.His major asset is his incredible pace, a feature of his play which often saw him play wide on the right for the Turin-based club.An air of inevitability surrounded his move to Arsenal, as both manager and player made public their admiration for each other.Although he was considered to be more of a winger than a striker when he first arrived at Highbury an excellent return of 27 goals in 47 matches during the 1999/2000 season proved otherwise.Henry capped a tremendous term with the Gunners by playing a major part in helping France win Euro 2000.During that tournament Henry was voted man-of-the-match in three games, including the final that France won 2-1 against Italy. |
