| Andy Myers |
Bradford Born: 11/03/73 Hometown: Isleworth |
| A stockily-built, tough-tackling left-sided defender who came up through the Chelsea youth ranks. He enjoyed several long spells in the Blues first team after making his debut in 1991, but was plagued by a series of niggling injuries. Can play as a left-back or left wing-back, but produced his best performances when playing as a left-sided central defender in a back three.A product of the FA School of Excellence, Myers played in an FA Cup quarter-final at the age of 18, and was a surprise choice as a substitute in the 1997 FA Cup Final. One of the main casualties of Chelsea's big-money foreign transfer policy, Myers signed for Bradford in the Summer of 1999 for £800,000. His wholehearted, battling attitude was a feature of his Chelsea games but his first season in Yorkshire was not too successful. Before the March 2000 transfer deadline he moved to Portsmouth on loan until the end of the season. Pompey wanted to make the move permanent but their offer of £400,000 was £200,000 less than Bradford were asking. |
