| The Estonian international keeper joined the Rams at the end of March 1997.Within days he was making his Derby debut at Old Trafford in a 3-2 victory for the Pride Park men in front of 55,000 people.He was also playing against his hero Peter Schmeichel, and the match came just a few days after he had collected his 50th cap for his country against Scotland.Poom uses his height and agility to command his area and he is a formidable sight in the Derby goal.He signed a two-year extension to his contract in July 1999 in a deal that keeps him at Pride Park until 2002. With his main rival Russell Hoult now at Portsmouth, Poom has a real opportunity to stake a regular first team place following a splendid 1999/2000 season, where he played a major part in helping to keep Derby in the Premiership. |
