| Jamie Lawrence |
Bradford Born: 3/08/70 Hometown: Balham |
| A spell at Her Majesty's pleasure dominated Lawrence's early footballing life. After a handful of appearances for Sunderland he made a name for himself at Doncaster as a fast, hard-working right winger. Leicester City bought him in 1995, and he was part of the team that won the Coca-Cola Cup Final against Middlesbrough.Bradford were able to sign Lawrence for a cut-price £50,000 in 1997. He's shown the City crowd his pace and directness, often beating opposing players with ease. He's surprisingly good in the air and is an able tackler. Lawrence was recommended by then Bradford boss Chris Kamara for a place in the Jamaica squad for the 1998 World Cup finals. After signing a new four-year contract in September 1999 Lawrence shocked everyone at the club at the end of the 1999/2000 season by announcing that he wanted a transfer. His argument was that other players' not even in the team, were receiving much higher pay. The club rejected his plea and he was placed on the transfer list.. |
