| Arnar Gunnlaugsson |
Leicester Born: 3/06/73 Hometown: Akranes |
| Joined Leicester from Bolton in February 1999 for £2m. The Icelandic international only cost Bolton £100,000 two years earlier. Gunnlaugsson finished the 1995/96 campaign as Iceland's top marksman with 15 goals as IA Akranes lifted the League title. Earlier in his career he played for Dutch giants Feyenoord and Sochaux in France. He won the a Dutch League championship medal whilst at Feyenoord.Bolton hardly played the pacy striker during their abortive 1997/98 Premiership campaign, but he struck 13 League goals in double-quick time at the start of the 1998/99 season. These goals alerted Martin O'Neill to the Icelandic man's talents but having bought him, Leicester only used Gunnlaugsson sparingly.A spell on loan to Stoke City went well but on his return to Filbert Street Gunnlaugsson immediately went back into the shadows. |
