A difficult spell at Highbury for the Portuguese player was ended with a move to Southampton in August 1999.Signed by Arsene Wenger from Sporting Lisbon during the 1997-98 season, Boa Morte's career at Arsenal never really took off.Only 23 league appearances and no goals was a disappointing return in the two seasons Boa Morte was at Highbury. He did manage to score in the Champions' League away leg against Panathinaikos and played an important part in an FA Cup tie away to Preston by scoring one and making two other goals. Unfortunately, it was not enough to enable Boa Morte to hold down a regular first team place.A one time Portuguese U-21 international the pacy winger, who can also play as an out and out striker, prefers to play on the right flank.
