| The club's record signing from Huddersfield Town was captured prior to the March 2000 transfer deadline.Stewart had previously made his name with Bristol Rovers, his hometown club, where he was a prolific scorer.Despite an injury almost immediately after joining Ipswich Town Stewart went on to become a part of the clubs history with a superb headed goal in the First Division Wembley play-off final 4-2 win against Barnsley.The promotion to the Premiership meant that Ipswich had to pay Huddersfield an additional £250,000 on top of the reported initial outlay of £2.7million.Stewart is a very quick performer particularly in the 18-yard box and in a one-on-one situation you could put your mortgage on him scoring.He is an out-and-out goalscorer who depends on being given good service, but one who has proved to be consistently effective when he is in front of goal. |
