| Olafur Gottskalksson |
Brentford Born: 3/12/68 Hometown: Keflavik |
| Icelandic international goalkeeper who was signed by former manager Jim Duffy as a replacement for Jim Leighton, who had departed to Aberdeen. Lost his place to Chris Reid and then Bryan Gunn midway through the 1997/98 season after Alex McLeish arrived at Easter Road, but regained his place when Gunn was seriously injured in pre-season training prior to the 1998/99 campaign. An ever-present in the promotion-winning team, Gottskalksson grew in confidence throughout the season and was a dependable and important member of the side.He forced McLeish into a re-think with his commanding form and his ability to pull off spectacular saves. Also a good basketball player, having been capped at junior level for Iceland. |
