Hermann Hreidarsson
Ipswich
Born: 7/11/74
Hometown: Iceland
Icelandic international Hreidarsson arrived in English football in 1997 when he was spotted by Crystal Palace chief Ron Noades. A giant of a defender who is ideally suited to the English game, he shone with some commanding displays at the back for Palace. When Noades decided to sever his ties with the London club and buy into Brentford FC he moved quickly to take Hreidarsson with him, promising to turn him into a Premiership player. He clearly had abilities above that of division three as he regularly claimed Man of the Match awards during the Bees' 1998/99 championship season.Noades' promise was realised in October 1999 when Wimbledon tempted Brentford to part with their star player. A £2million deal saw Hreidarsson return to Selhurst Park to link up with Egil Olsen's new look Dons.
