| Emile Heskey is a striker with power and pace. He progressed through the youth ranks to make his Leicester debut in 1995.While at Leicester Heskey often shouldered all the goalscoring responsibility, spearheading the City strike-force with his strong physical presence.He will forever be remembered by the Filbert Street faithful for his Wembley goal in the 1997 League Cup final. His goals did much to keep the Foxes in a respectable mid-table Premiership position but his 1998-99 goal haul was a disappointing nine in all competitions.Heskey was called up into the England squad for the crucial Euro 2000 qualifier against Bulgaria in June 1999, when he made his full international debut.He staked his claim for a Euro 2000 place with an impressive display in a friendly against Argentina in February 2000.After much transfer speculation Heskey finally moved to Liverpool in March 2000 for a fee of £11million. He scored his first goal for the Anfield club in a 3-0 win at Coventry.With the retirement from international football of Alan Shearer, Heskey was widely tipped to be his replacement and was recalled to the international starting line-up, the game after the resignation of England boss Kevin Keegan. Keegan's final appearance was at Wembley in the World Cup qualifier against Germany, that England lost 1-0 with Heskey back in the side for the away game against Finland on October 11. |
