| Another one off the Dario Gradi conveyor belt at Crewe, Danny Murphy was taken to Merseyside by former Reds boss Roy Evans in the summer of 1997.Murphy has been frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities during his time at Anfield but looks capable of securing a regular berth in the Liverpool midfield.Unsurprisingly, the youngster has found it difficult to establish himself in the first team due to competition for places but found many admirers with some impressive performances for the reserves.He was allowed to return to Crewe for an extended loan period at the end of the 1998-99 season and looked to be on his way out at Liverpool when he slapped in a transfer request and several division one clubs asked about his availability.Assurances from Gerard Houllier and a more regular involvement with the first-team squad would appear to have sparked a change of heart in Murphy and he could yet prove to be one of the Anfield stars of the future. |
