| Became the club's record signing when he arrived from Birmingham in February 1997.He has played in all defensive positions during his career. A naturally right-footed player, he prefers a central role and is at his most effective with the ball at his feet.His time at Highfield Road has had its ups and downs with some concerted runs in the first team, although the odd lapse in concentration has seen him dropped to the substitutes bench.An honest defender, he excels in the air against old-fashioned centre forwards. He has represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-21 and full international levels.During the summer 2000 a number of clubs were believed to be interested in the big centre half, with relegated Sheffield Wednesday the club most keen to capture to take him away from Highfield Road. |
