David Robertson
Leeds
Born: 10/17/68
Hometown: Aberdeen
David Robertson signed for Leeds in the summer of 1997 for £500,000 from Rangers as a replacement for Tony Dorigo. The Aberdeen-born defender found it hard to adjust to the demands of the Premiership and was seen by certain sections of the Elland Road crowd as a suitable victim for abuse. The former Scotland international regained some of his Ibrox form and began to settle into his game, but an injury sustained at Leicester in February 1998 sidelined him until the final three games of the 1997-98 season. On his return to fitness, Ian Harte had already claimed the left-back berth. As for his international career, Robertson was often selected for Scotland but did not actually play in a game, and this led to him informing Craig Brown that he wished not to be considered for the national side if he had no intention of playing him.Two weeks before the World Cup in France 98, Brown said that he would include Robertson in the 22-man squad if there were no conditions applied, and if he were willing to telephone him to let him know of his intentions. Robertson decided not to contact the national coach.Injury again curtailed Robertson's 1998-99 season and speculation continues regarding his future at Leeds.
