| Having impressed with a number of outstanding displays for Tranmere during the 1997/98 season, the youngster soon began to attract the attention of the Premiership big guns.With the following season only a month old, Everton splashed out £3.3million to make Simonsen the most expensive teenage goalkeeper in British football. The fee is based on appearances and international honours.With competition from Thomas Myhre and Paul Gerrard, Simonsen has a fight on his hands to become Everton's No.1.A bright future was forecast but still there seems little prospect of the former Tranmere keeper making the breakthrough with just one substitute appearance in the 1999/2000 season. |
