Robbie Blake
Bradford
Born: 3/04/76
Hometown: Middlesbrough
A hard-working striker who had a brilliant 1998/99 season. His thrusting style and direct play make him similar to a former Valley Parade hero, John Hendrie. He's also been compared to Peter Beardsley. Willing to shoot from anywhere Blake also has the skill to run at and beat defenders. After being linked with a £2million move to Middlesbrough Bradford offered Robbie an extension to his contract in 1999. However, he rejected the deal and was subsequently transfer listed.Following months of unrest and being left out of the starting line-up Blake was eventually taken off the list. During that period Blackburn Rovers had a £2.5million bid rejected while Brian Kidd was in charge at Ewood Park but Blake finally signed a new three-year contract at Valley Parade in the summer 2000.The young striker initially made his name at Darlington where he scored a commendable 21 League goals in just over two seasons. It took an offer of £300,000 in 1997 from Bradford to take him away from Feethams. His career at City hasn't been entirely incident free and he has twice been placed on the list, the first occasion by the man that signed him, Chris Kamara.Season 2000/2001 witnessed the City forward go out on loan to first division Nottingham Forest for three months. The Forest boss David Platt wanted to sign him but the Midlands club only offered £300,000, for a player valued at five times that amount.
