| Paul Ritchie |
Man City Born: 8/21/75 Hometown: Kirkcaldy |
| Paul Ritchie had a season 1999/2000 very similar to another newcomer at Ibrox Park Allan Johnston. After more than eight years at Tynecastle the Scotland international rejected the opportunity to continue his association with Hearts and before his summer 2000 move to Rangers was allowed to go on loan to Bolton. Eventually Ritchie signed for Rangers on a free transfer under the Bosman rule that came less than a year after Hearts had rejected a £1million offer and the only fee the Edinburgh club received was a paltry £50,000 from Bolton before his loan spell at the Reebok Stadium. The Scotland international was sent off on his first game in Bolton colours but went on to play a major part in the Trotters quest for promotion that ended with a late flurry and a place in the end of season play-offs. A semi-final two-legged defeat against Ipswich Town brought to an end the hopes of Premiership football for Bolton but there was little to suggest that Ritchie would eventually go anywhere else on a permanent basis other than Rangers. His move to the Scottish champions had been muted for some time and the reliable central defender or full back finally joined Dick Advocaat's side in June 2000. He is desperate to become a regular first-team member of the squad and enjoy the success that comes with playing with a major club. |
