| Bakke signed a five-year contract with Leeds in May 1999 for £1.75million from Norwegian Second Division side Sogndal.Tipped for international stardom, Eirik is viewed as a stylish midfield playmaker with an eye for goal and a creative streak.The Norwegian Under-21 skipper impressed David O'Leary in a short trial at the end of the 1998/99 season. Following his inclusion in the international squad that beat Jamaica 6-0, United snapped him up, with the Scandinavian reportedly turning down offers from Chelsea and Rosenborg to join Leeds' exciting young team.He managed to break in to the first team during the 1999/2000 season despite strong opposition within the bright young Leeds squad. |
