| Born in Tobago and signed as a teenager by Aston Villa in 1989, the ever-smiling Dwight Yorke spent nine years at Villa Park before moving to Manchester United, who splashed out a then record £12.6million for his services in August 1998.Aston Villa desperately wanted to keep their talented striker, but Yorke insisted on leaving, believing that at United he had a better chance of winning league and cup honours. How right he was. Apart from scoring 29 goals in his first season at his new club, he immediately struck up an intuitive understanding with fellow striker Andy Cole, and the partnership blossomed to become an integral part of the success United achieved in 1998-99 with the remarkable treble of Premiership, FA Cup and European Cup.York is a regular international for Trinidad and Tobago.The 2000/2001 season didn't start too well for Yorke and he was left out of the squad for one match against Tottenham and stormed out of the ground.Any differances were quickly patched up but rumours of interest from other clubs remains to shroud the strikers future at Old Trafford. |
