Alan Shearer
Newcastle
Born: 8/13/70
Hometown: Newcastle
Alan Shearer has twice been a British transfer record breaker. First his move from Southampton to Blackburn in 1992 for a then record £3.6million, followed by his multi-million pound world record breaking move to the Magpies in July 1996.He shot to fame on his professional debut, aged 17, scoring a hat-trick for the Saints against Arsenal and the goals have continued to flow throughout his career. The move to Tyneside was a dream for the childhood Newcastle fan. His career was interrupted by serious injury at the start of the 1997/98 season, but he returned faster and fitter and hungry for further success. A combative striker, his finishing has usually been clinical. At ease with either foot, he is adept at finding space and is always a nuisance to opposing defenders. Shearer is a centre-forward of a bygone age with the footballing brain of tomorrow. After Euro 2000 Shearer retired from the international scene to put all his efforts in to Newcastle and he remains the idol of Toon followers.
