| Dominic Matteo |
Leeds Born: 4/24/74 Hometown: Dumfries |
| Having enjoyed his most consistent spell at Liverpool during the 1997-98 season, when he was regularly called into Glenn Hoddle's England squad's, Dominic Matteo found himself squeezed out of the starting line-up when Gerard Houllier took over at the club.A cultured defender, Matteo is as comfortable with the ball at his feet as in the air. His distribution from the back is his greatest asset and he enjoys nothing more than stepping out of defence with the ball.An influx of foreign signings and a number of injuries have stifled his development at club level and until he can shake off the injury problems his career is likely to remain in limbo. When Matteo finally signed for Leeds United in a £4.25million transfer he failed the medical. However, manager David O'Leary still went ahead with the signing and the utility player repaid the bosses faith and he made his Elland Road bow, starring in the Champions League 1-0 win against AC Milan in September 2000. |
