| The Russian goalkeeper became the first signing of management dream-team John Barnes and Kenny Dalglish, joining in July 1999 under the Bosman ruling. A confident shot-stopper, who commands his area well, Kharine is confident at taking crosses. He was Chelsea's first choice 'keeper until the arrival of Ed de Goey. The Russian suffered from Luca Vialli's infamous rotational system, and was keen to move so that he could secure first-team football. However that is by no means assured, as he will have to dislodge Jonathan Gould first.This will be far from easy as the Scotland keeper is a fans' favourite who kept youngster Stewart Kerr out of the side and hastened the departure of former number one Gordon Marshall. So far Kharine has had to settle for being the second choice keeper and, when he did look set for a top team slot, injury ruled him out. He may wait a long time for another chance. |
