| Gerry Taggart is a powerfully-built central defender who has added an extra physical dimension to the Foxes defence.He is an established Northern Ireland international who has a wealth of experience. His no-nonsense, hard tackling approach makes him a favourite with the fans.After only a handful of games at Maine Road, Manchester City let Taggart leave for Barnsley for a minimal fee. Barnsley brought out the best in Taggart and in more than 200 games at Oakwell he established himself as a rugged defender.Bolton looked to Taggart to shore up their defence and keep them in the Premiership, a task that proved beyond him.Contract disagreements with Bolton at the end of the 1997-98 season meant Taggart was available on a free transfer. Leicester were at the head of the queue, but Taggart found it difficult to force his way into the first team and made just 15 appearances in his first season at Filbert Street.But in the 1999-2000 season he helped the Foxes to their Worthington Cup triumph over Tranmere at Wembley. |
