| Michael Duberry |
Leeds Born: 10/14/75 Hometown: Enfield |
| Michael Duberry was signed by Leeds from Chelsea on July 12, 1999 for £4.5million.He most probably would still be at Chelsea had it not been for a seven-month lay-off due to Achilles tendon damage sustained in January 1997, together with an influx of foreign players, which left him battling for a place in the side with the French World Cup winning duo of Frank Leboeuf and Marcel Desailly.Duberry has strength, pace and aggression, and after only two days at Leeds he made his debut in the second half of a warm-up match against Swedish part-timers Byake IF in United's three-match Scandinavian tour.Since then he has struggled to claim a regular first-team place, but has been an able deputy when called into action.None more so than during the 2000/2001 season when Lucas Radebe suffered a couple of early season head injuries and Duberry stepped into the breach. There had been mounting speculation that he would leave Elland Road for pastures new, but despite persistent rumours Duberry remained a part of David O'Leary's plans. |
