Dean Windass
Middlesbrough
Born: 4/01/69
Hometown: Hull
Bradford decided to bring the experienced Windass into their squad as the 1998/99 season climaxed, to ensure their promotion to the Premiership. He netted three times in 11 appearances as the gamble paid off.A powerfully built player, Windass made his name at Hull City in the early 1990's. 40 goals in two seasons brought him to the attention of Aberdeen who snapped him up in 1995. The goals didn't flow as freely north of the border as Aberdeen struggled to regain their former Alex Ferguson-inspired glory days. But Deano made history when becoming probably the only player to be red-carded three times in one match after a bad foul, abusive language and an incident involving a corner flag!Windass teamed up again with former Hull team-mate Malcolm Shotton at Oxford, but after 15 goals and 33 games he was on the move again, this time back to Yorkshire with Bradford and a return to the Premiership in 1999/2000.Windass made an immediate impact at Valley Parade and quickly became a firm-favourite with the City fans.He was the leading scorer in the 1999/2000 Premiership season with 10 goals and during that season a £1million bid from Wolves was rejected by the club. Rumours of a move away from Bradford have persisted but the player himself has admitted that he would like to end his career at Valley Parade.
