| Ole Gunnar Solskjaer joined Manchester United in 1996 from the Norwegian club Molde for a bargain £1.5million.Has the ability to drift away from defenders and when given the licence is lethal in front of goal. Has been nicknamed 'the baby-faced assassin' after his youthful looks and clinical finishing.Although not always in United's 1998-99 starting line-up, with Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke preferred, Solksjaer played a significant part in the treble-winning side.He scored four goals in ten minutes in February 1999 in a Premiership match at Nottingham Forest and wrote himself into United's folklore by coming off the bench in Barcelona to score the dramatic match-winning goal which clinched the 1998-99 European Cup. The Norwegian international would be an automatic choice at most other clubs, and has been courted by many. But to the delight of manager Sir Alex Ferguson, he has decided to stay at Old Trafford where his contract takes him through to June 2004. |
