| Steve Guppy |
Leicester Born: 3/29/69 Hometown: Winchester |
| The left-sided midfielder originally played under Martin O'Neill at Wycombe. His pace, crossing ability and ball control have made him a key member of the Leicester team. Such was his form that he was called up to the full England squad. After making his name at Wycombe, Guppy made a surprise move to Newcastle. It wasn't a dream move and after one brief substitute appearance and three months he was bought by John Rudge at Port Vale.Guppy blossomed at Vale Park, playing in an attacking team who played with two out-an-out wingers, Guppy on the left and Jon McCarthy on the right. After a brilliant 1996 Martin O'Neill decided to reacquaint himself with Guppy in February 1997, and the Leicester boss was not disappointed with his purchase. When Peter Taylor took over the manager's job Guppy was left out of the side in the first few weeks. However, he typically knuckled down and quickly regained his position in the starting line-up. |
