David Weir
Everton
Born: 5/10/70
Hometown: Falkirk
Weir quickly made his mark at Goodison after moving from Hearts in February 1999.His defensive skills and experience, either at wing-back or in the centre of defence, boosted the Blues' successful fight against relegation from the Premiership. His versatility enabled him to impress in a number of positions before settling for a right wing-back role during 1999/2000.Playing alongside experienced fellow Scot, Richard Gough, and Dave Watson, David helped to give Everton a more solid defensive base. He's good in the air, a sound tackler, and a defender with an eye for a decent pass. His first goal for the club could not have delighted the Goodison faithful more. It came in the dying seconds of a thrilling 4-4 draw with Leeds when he headed in David Unsworth's free-kick.That goal, coupled with the quality of his all-round play, has helped David to establish himself at the club.He began his professional career in 1995 with home-town club Falkirk, and moved to Hearts the following year. However, his transfer to Merseyside has been an excellent career move for the player as well as the club, with Weir proving to be an exceptionally reliable defender at Goodison Park.
