| Mark Schwarzer |
Middlesbrough Born: 10/06/72 Hometown: Sydney |
| Mark Schwarzer arrived in England from Germany in November 1996 when Bradford City plucked him from Kaiserslautern for £350,000. He rapidly became a favourite with City's supporters and they were not too impressed when, four months after his first game, Boro leapt in and bought him.The dual nationality (Australian and German) keeper made an impressive start at the Riverside and again soon won over the fans.Injury struck and he only played seven league games in the 1997-98 season. In 1998-99 he enjoyed better fortune, making 31 Premiership appearances, and he enhanced his status with several memorable saves.Injury continued to play havoc with Schwarzer and in September 2000 an old favourite, Gary Walsh, was brought back to the club on loan from Bradford to act as cover. |
