| Aidan Davison |
Bradford Born: 5/11/68 Hometown: Sedgefield |
| The season 1999/2000 will doubtless live in the memory of Aidan Davison for the rest of his life.Having been second choice at Bramall Lane, he was initially captured on loan from Sheffield United because of a goalkeeping crisis to first choice keepers' Gary Walsh and Matt Clarke. His eventual permanent transfer to Bradford was though shrouded in controversy. Davison's refusal to agree a contract, left Bradford without a recognised keeper for a home game against Leeds United after negotiations hade broken down. Veteran Neville Southall was called into action in a game that City lost 2-1, before Davison had a re-think and agreed personal terms the following week. His displays between the sticks helped City in their eventual Premiership survival. One game in particular, away to Tottenham, ended 1-1 and was very much down to the outstanding performance of a keeper who had once spent a previous spell on loan at Valley Parade.Although he is unlikely to be able to displace Matt Clarke in the first team the Northern Ireland international has already done enough to suggest that he is an excellent stand-in. |
