Perugia went to Milan, knowing they hadn't won a match in the Guiseppe Meazza stadium in the last ten years.
In the first half it looked like Inter were going to have an easy afternoon.
After nine minutes Recoba scored his third goal this season, from an assist from Benoit Cauet.
Before that goal Javier Zanetti had already hit the post for Inter.
However, 15 minutes before half time, Perugia scored the equalizer.
Materazzi scored his fourth goal of the season and brought Perugia back in the game. Materazzi scored the first goal for Perugia in the Guiseppe Meazza stadium for four games.
In the first fifteen minutes of the second half, Inter created a lot of chances. Recoba, Sukur and Zanetti had the opportunities to score the important second goal, but they all failed to beat goalkeeper Mazzantini.
Vieri came in as a substitute in the 46th minute. He replaced Cauet and played an important role for Inter in the second half.
In the 65th minute, Vieri made an incredible solo run through the Perugia defence, but he failed to score from two yards and Hakan Sukur reacted quickly, but failed to score from the rebound.
Ten minutes later Vieri was booked for diving, but one minute later he got what he was looking for.
Inter had pressed almost the whole second half on Perugia's goal and finally Vieri took revenge for his yellow card and scored the important and decisive second goal for Inter.
