Soccer Recaps
Brescia 2, Lecce 2
December 23, 2000
Newly promoted side Brescia showed real character to come back from two goals down to earn a draw in their home match against Lecce.

The visitors played with their superstar Roberto Baggio in the starting line-up. He had been injured but passed a late fitness to start the game.

Baggio came close to opening the score in the 13th minute, but his shot went wide of the target.

After 18 minutes the visiting team got their first big chance of the match, which immediately resulted in a goal. Croatian striker Vugrinec took a free kick, which was headed in by Cristiano Lucarelli.

After falling behind, Brescia failed to up the tempo of their game, which meant Lecce were never in danger of conceding the equaliser during the remainder of the first half.

In the 41st minute Brescia midfielder Antonio Filippini and Lecce midfielder Luigi Piangerelli received their marching orders after becoming embroiled in a brawl.

Six minutes into the second half Czech born Brescia goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek made a huge error, which made it easy for Lucarelli to score his second goal of the match.

But the home side were not planning of giving up easily, as they pressed forward after falling two goals behind.

In the 68th minute they scored a well deserved goal. It was striker Dario Hubner who put the ball into the Lecce net after a bad goalkick by Lecce keeper Antonio Chimenti let him in.

In the 76th minute the home side were rewarded a penalty by referee Castellani, much to the delight of the home fans. Hubner was the player to take the penalty and he made no mistake from the spot, to record his second goal of the match.

After Brescia scored the equaliser both teams settled for a draw and the match became rather boring for the spectators.
