Soccer Recaps
Bologna 1, Brescia 0
January 7, 2001
Bologna recovered well from their 3-1 loss at Udinese the match before to beat Brescia 1-0 today. Francesco Guidolin's side had not won a Serie A match since November 26, when they defeated Perugia. They started the season well, being second on the table after a couple of matches, but after that they have slumped to ninth on the table. The win today moves them a few places up.

Brescia are having a difficult time in the Serie A so far. They are in serious danger of relegation and they have only won once so far this season. Today Brescia again had to play without their injured star Roberto Baggio. They also played without top scorer Dario Hubner and veteran player Filippo Galli.

After a defensive error by Brescia player Alessandro Calori, Tomas Locatelli took advantage and went past keeper Pavel Srnicek to put the ball into the Brescia net.

In the 40th minute Brescia had another good chance, but Swiss striker Kubilay Turkyilmaz was unable to put the ball past Pagliuca.

Five minutes later Pagliuca made a miraculous save on a header by Marino that looked certain to go in.

In the second half Brescia did not have the strength any more to put Bologna in any real danger. They had wasted too much energy during the first half.

In the second half two players were sent off by referee Rossi. First Bologna player Jonatan Binotto had to leave the pitch in the 51st minute. But Brescia did not enjoy the numerical advantage for very long, as Stefano Diana had to take an early shower only six minutes later.

Brescia are in real danger of going down at the end of the season. They are now in 17th position, having won only one game so far. They have to start winning games soon, because their six draws so far has not helped them very much.
