| Juventus gave their Serie A title hopes a boost with a hard-earned away win against surprise team Perugia. The victory goes some way to making amends for their defeat on the final day of the season at the same venue, which cost the Turin club the Italian title.
Perugia started the stronger of the sides, with Juventus goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar being forced in to early saves from Luca Saudati on two occasions.
Juventus came in to things in the latter part of the half, with David Trezeguet forcing a brilliant save from Perugia keeper Andrea Mazzantini.
Just after, Mazzantini did well to save a free-kick from Zinedine Zidane, before making another excellent stop from Filippo Inzaghi just before half time.
Perugia also started the second half strongly, with Korean Ahn Jung-Hwan forcing a remarkable reflex save from Van der Sar in the 54th minute.
Juventus broke the deadlock in the 58th minute. The goal came after good approach play from Edgar Davids, who fed the ball to Inzaghi. The slender striker sprinted through on the left side of the goal, before firing in to the right-hand corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season.
Perugia tried hard to claim an equaliser, but to no avail. Their best chance fell to Ahn, who ran through on goal before firing in to the side netting.
