It not only extended Chelsea's unbeaten run this season, but also marked the return of Eidur Gudjohnsen's scoring touch. With Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink kept on the bench, Gudjohnsen scored twice with Italian veteran Gianfranco Zola adding to the tally in between. It marked the first time since 1986 that Newcastle failed to win at Stamford Bridge. ... In Thursday night's UEFA Cup tie, Hasselbaink re-discovered his goal-scoring touch and Enrique de Lucas struck as well for the home team. But a late header from Ben Wright ensured that Viking Stavanger's hopes remain very much alive going into the second leg. ... A minute's silence was observed prior to the Viking match to honor Ian Hutchinson. The forward, who was on Chelsea's 1970 FA Cup winning side, died after a long bout with illness. He was 54. ... On Monday, Chelsea takes on archrival Fulham at Loftus Road in the West London derby. They played to a 1-1 draw last season at Craven Cottage.
