| TEAM NOTES | Coach: Javier Irureta (5th year) Liga Primera Record: 1-1-0 Rank: 10th, 3 points Last Result: 2-1win at Osasuna, September 14 Streak: Won 1 Next Game: vs. Valladolid, September 21 UEFA Champions League Last Result: 1st Group Stage ~ 3-2 win at Bayern Munich, September 18 Next Game: vs. AC Milan, September 24 Copa del Rey Last Result: 1st Round ~ 2-1 win at Corralejo, September 11 Despite missing several regulars, including goalkeeper Jose Molina and striker Diego Tristan through injury, Deportivo provided the shock of Matchday One of the Champions League with a 3-2 win over Bayern Munich in the Olympic Stadium. Dutch striker Roy Makaay netted all three goals as Deportivo took a large step toward the second group stage of the Champions League from what is considered the Group of Death. Behind a strong defense and a quick counterattack, Deportivo took advantage of its chances provided by the passing of Juan Carlos Valeron. Makaay started his spectacular week with two goals in Deportivo's 2-1 win in Pamplona over Osasuna last weekend. With Makaay on such a solid run of from, Tristan will find hit hard to displace the 'flying Dutchman' from the lineup when he returns. Depor host Valladolid this weekend hoping to become the first team to take a point off of Valladolid this season. Deportivo defeated Valladolid 4-0 in the Riazor Stadium on the Opening day of last season.
