TEAM NOTES
Coach: Gerard Houllier (since July 1998) Premiership
Record: 3-0-3
Rank: 5th, 12 points
Last Result: 3-2 win at Bolton Wanderers, September 14
Streak: Won 1 Next Game: vs. West Bromwich Albion, September 21 Champions League Group B Last Result: 2-0 loss at Valencia, September 17 Next Game: vs. Basle, September 25 A mixed week for Liverpool, recording its first Premiership win in four matches and a disappointing defeat at the start of its Champions League campaign. Facing Bolton Wanderers, Liverpool twice let a lead slip before clinching victory two minutes from time. With out of form Michael Owen not included, Milan Baros scored twice on his Premiership debut (45th and 72nd minutes) before Emile Heskey finished off good work by Steven Gerrard and John Arne Riise for the winner. ... On Tuesday evening, though, Liverpool was overrun in the first half against Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium. Coach Gerrard Houllier gambled by leaving out Baros and Owen and the decision backfired. To add to Liverpool's misery, Dietmar Hamann was sent off following his second booking. ... Next up for the Reds is newly promoted West Bromwich Albion, which will be buoyed by three successive victories. It will mark the first league meeting between the clubs since Liverpool beat West Brom, 2-1, in April 1986.
