Four straight for Man U Champions League quarterfinalists occupy top four spots
ATLANTA (CNNSI.com) -- It's four straight weeks for England's Manchester United, which holds on again to No. 1 in the CNN/World Soccer Top 10, the unique ranking of football clubs issued each Monday and determined through voting by correspondents from CNN Sports and World Soccer magazine. Champions League quarterfinalists occupy the top four spots in the Top 10. United warmed up for its Champions League quarterfinals first-leg match against Real Madrid this week with a 7-1 trouncing of West Ham United on Saturday in the Premier League. Combined with Leeds United's loss at home to Chelsea, the defending champions have virtually wrapped up another Premier League title. Barcelona holds on to the second spot in the Top 10 after defeating fellow Champions League quarterfinalist Valencia on Sunday in domestic action. Barcelona visits London on Wednesday to battle Chelsea in its quarterfinal tie. Lazio is enjoying a return to form as it rises to No. 3 following a 1-0 victory at Serie A leader Juventus on Saturday. The win brought Lazio within three points of the league lead. Lazio visits Valencia in the Champions League on Wednesday. Dropping into the No. 4 spot is Bayern Munich, which failed to win another Bundesliga match last week, drawing with Wolfsburg 1-1 on Saturday. Last year's Champions League runner-up, Bayern travels to Portugal to face FC Porto in another first-leg match on Tuesday. Defending Argentine champ River Plate remains steady at No. 5 despite a draw with Lanus, while FIFA club world champion Corinthians stays sixth after staying perfect in the Sao Paulo state championship. Spanish leader Deportivo La Coruna rejoins the Top 10 in seventh after beating Sevilla 3-1 on Sunday, and Juventus returns at No. 8 despite its loss to Lazio. Bayer Leverkusen joins in a tie for ninth after beating 1860 Munich 2-1 on Saturday and keeping the German Bundesliga lead. Sharing No. 9 is England's No. 2 Leeds, which hosts the No. 10 side -- Turkish leader Galatasaray -- in a UEFA Cup semifinal first leg on Thursday.
