It's not a New York, New York-type of year after all.

The Big Apple has enjoyed two major pro sports championships in the same year five times. After the Yankees won the World Series in October, the Giants had a chance to make it six in Super Bowl XXXV.

Instead, the Ravens spoiled what would have been another parade down the Canyon of Heroes for an NYC squad.

The last time a city enjoyed two championships out of the four major sports leagues -- NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB -- was 1988 when the Lakers and Dodgers won world titles (see complete list, below)

Worth an honorable mention is the year 1989, when the NFL's San Francisco 49ers and MLB's Oakland A's claimed championships.

One final food for thought: Since the Giants actually play their games in New Jersey, and since the Devils won the Stanley Cup, does that mean New Jersey would have had a double-championship season as well?
