A few more base hits and Albert Pujols' hitting streak will become the biggest story in baseball. Amazing, considering Pujols is still three weeks away from seriously challenging Joe DiMaggio's record streak. Here's a look at some single-season and career records that should stand the test of time:

.367 -- Lifetime average compiled by Ty Cobb. Tony Gwynn finished at .338. Enough said. Joe DiMaggio

2 -- Consecutive no-hitters thrown by Johnny Vander Meer in 1938. Matching this feat would be quite an achievement. Three in a row? No chance.
36 -- Triples legged out by Chief Wilson in 1912. In the past 50 years, only four players have topped 20 in a season: Willie Mays (20 in 1957), George Brett (20 in 1979), Willie Wilson (21 in 1985) and Cristian Guzman (20 in 2000).
50 -- Pitches absorbed by Ron Hunt in 1971. Don Baylor's highest hit-by-pitch total was 35 in 1986. Craig Biggio and Jason Kendall have both posted 30-plunk seasons, but Hunt is in a class by himself.
56 -- Consecutive games with a hit, accomplished by Joe DiMaggio in 1941. There have been only three other hitting streaks of at least 40 games since 1900, topped by Pete Rose at 44 games in 1978.
59 -- Consecutive scoreless innings pitched by Orel Hershiser in 1988. That's a lot of zeros. Back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back shutouts and change.
110 -- Career shutouts by Walter Johnson. Nolan Ryan, who pitched 26 years, finished with 61, which is tied for seventh place with Tom Seaver. Bob Gibson, who threw 13 shutouts in 1968, had 56 in his career. Clemens is the active leader with 46.
130 -- Bases stolen by Rickey Henderson in 1982. Other Ricky himself, no player has come within 50 since Vince Coleman stole 109 in 1987.
177 -- Runs scored by Babe Ruth in 1921. Two players have since scored 150 in a season: Ted Williams (150 in 1949) and Jeff Bagwell (152 in 2000).
191 -- RBIs collected by Hack Wilson in 1930. Since 1940, only Manny Ramirez (165 in 1999) and Sammy Sosa (160 in 2001) have reached 160.
511 -- Career wins for Cy Young. Tom Glavine won his 250th career game Friday night. Think he has another 17 years left in the tank?
2,632 -- Consecutive games played by Cal Ripken, or 24 percent more than Lou Gehrig (2,130). Miguel Tejada, who played in his 556th straight game Sunday, is on pace to break Ripken's ironman streak in 2016.
5,714 -- Career strikeouts for Ryan, which is 38 percent more Steve Carlton.
4,256 -- Career hits for Pete Rose. The only other player with more than 4,000 hits is Cobb (4,191).
