No Moore streak Lions WR fails to catch pass in 108th straight gamePosted: Monday September 13, 1999 10:16 PM
By Desmond M. Wallace, CNN/SI An innocent block ended one of the NFL's longest pass catching streaks on Sunday. Detroit's Herman Moore injured his left knee in the first quarter Sunday against the Seahawks, preventing him from extending his team record of 107 consecutive games with a reception. The streak is tied for the 10th longest in NFL history. Dating to December 1991, the nine-year veteran had nabbed at least one pass in every game in which he had played. Only San Francisco's Jerry Rice has a longer current streak.
Rice has caught a pass in an NFL-record 194 straight games. Moore won't be catching any passes any time soon, either. He is expected to miss three to six weeks with a torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee. He had been one of the more durable wide receivers in the NFL over his eight seasons, missing only nine games because of injury. Moore had been one of the league's most prolific wideouts, as well. Before last season, Moore had caught 100 or more passes in three consecutive seasons. In 1998, Moore had only 82 receptions for 983 yards, but became the fastest player in league history to reach the 600-reception mark, achieving the feat in just his 118th career game.Rice reached the plateau in 123 games.
