Andre Agassi returns a ball against Yevgeny Kafelnikov on the way to his sixth Grand Slam title. AP |
Smoldering start, fiery finish
Agassi downs Kafelnikov to win second Australian title
Andre Agassi won his third title in four Grand Slams with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 victory over defending Australian champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov on Sunday. The Russian jumped out to a 4-0 lead on the way to winning the first set, but after that it was all Agassi as he beat Kafelnikov for the fourth straight time. Coupled with Lindsay Davenport's 6-1, 7-5 victory over Martina Hingis on Saturday, Americans have now swept the past three Grand Slams singles finals.
