but only will play doubles in the final; teamed with Juan

suffering from severe allergies, the Spaniard bounced back to

although he went without a title, scored runner-up finishes at
the Dubai Open in February and at Barcelona in April; also
reached the fourth round at the U.S. Open and the quarterfinals
at the Sydney Olympics; played well in the Tennis Masters Series
events, advancing to the semifinals of the Paris Indoors and the
quarterfinals at Monte Carlo; in matches against Australia's top
players, defeated Patrick Rafter this year but lost to Lleyton
Hewitt.

tour semifinal in January at Auckland, defeating Tommy Haas and
teammate Juan Carlos Ferrero before losing to Michael Chang in
