Third seed defeats doubles specialist Woodforde

LONDON (Reuters) -- Third seed Magnus Norman ran doubles specialist Mark Woodforde ragged at Wimbledon on Tuesday before the Australian retired with an injured back with the first round score at 6-4, 6-2, 2-0.

The Swede used powerful passing shots and lobs to punish the 34-year-old whenever he approached the net.

Norman, runner-up at the French Open last month, looked a little unsteady on his feet on the slippery grass surface but he made Woodforde fight for every point.

Woodforde eventually called it a day after rubbing his shoulder. The Australian is top seeded with compatriot Todd Woodbridge in the men's doubles after winning the title at the French Open.
