LONDON (Reuters) -- Arantxa Sanchez Vicario recovered from a dismal second set to beat hard-hitting Justine Henin 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 in the first round at Wimbledon on Tuesday.

The Spanish ninth seed broke Henin in the second game and again in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead, but the Belgian broke back immediately for 4-1.

Henin could not withstand the Spanish battering in the first set but turned the tables completely in the second, hitting with uninhibited power from the baseline to shock Sanchez Vicario, twice a finalist here.

Normal service was resumed in the final set as the Spaniard passed Henin repeatedly with stinging groundstrokes to go through to the second round.
