Seles struggles with serve Sixth seed advances with three set win over HabsudovaPosted: Tuesday June 27, 2000 11:49 AM
LONDON (Reuters) -- Sixth seed Monica Seles struggled with a wayward serve on Tuesday as she beat Karina Habsudova of Slovakia 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 to reach the second round at Wimbledon. The 26-year-old American, seeking the only Grand Slam title to elude her, dropped two service games in the first set and had frequent difficulties with her toss. Habsudova, ranked 52 in the world, produced a number of penetrating forehand groundstrokes but lost her nerve in the second set, missing a series of easy shots. Seles, who beat Habsudova in straight sets at their only other meeting eight years ago, broke the Slovak's serve in the 11th game of a hard-fought third set and served out the match.
