Another easy one Hingis defeats Yi in straight setsPosted: Wednesday June 28, 2000 01:36 PM
LONDON (Reuters) -- World number one Martina Hingis eased through to the Wimbledon third round on Wednesday after beating Jing-Qian Yi 6-4, 6-1. Yi, China's sole representative here, put up a game fight in the first set, coming back from two breaks down to break the top seed's serve in the eighth game and save one set point at 5-4. But Hingis, back in the swing of Wimbledon after last year's shock first round exit to Jelena Dokic, served out for the set and raced to 5-1 in the second. The 19-year-old, who now meets Silvija Talaja of Croatia, finished off the Centre Court match in 65 minutes when she broke Yi for the third time in the set.
