Huber hangs on No. 11 seed struggles to advancePosted: Wednesday June 28, 2000 09:36 AM
LONDON (Reuters) -- Germany's Anke Huber, seeded 11th, was made to struggle by British number one Louise Latimer before winning 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 in the second round of the women's singles at Wimbledon. Latimer, ranked 119, maintained strong pressure from the baseline in the opening set, which Huber lost by serving a double fault on set point. The German, who has not gone past the fourth round in nine visits to the All England club, recovered her poise in the second set and took a 3-1 lead in the third. Latimer, who used her backhand down the line with devastating effect, broke back for 3-2 but Huber's experience forced another immediate break and she won through to a third round match against Tina Pisnik of Slovenia.
